In the context of“The Belt and RoadInitiative”andthebuilding of “strong national transportation network ”, aimingat national strategy oflocal economic and social developmentdrawing onthe international advanced higher education concepts, making fulladvantage of double first-class discipline--transportation engineering, Chang’an University established Chang’an Dublin International College of Transportation at Chang’an University (CDIC),basedon Chang’anUniversity’s Schoolof Highway, School of Automobile ,Schoolof Transportation Engineeringand University College Dublin’s School of Civil Engineering, Schoolof Architectural Planning andSchoolofEnvironmental Policy and other superior disciplines with significant internationalinfluence.
Chang’an Dublin International College of Transportation at Chang’an University (CDIC)is a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution with no separate legal identity, jointly organized by our universityand the University College Dublin. It was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2020 (approval number:MOE61IEA02DNR20202076N) to conduct undergraduate education. CDIC offers three Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate majors: (1)Civil Engineering Infrastructure(2) Automotive Engineering(3) Transport City Planning and Environmental Policy major. The annual enrollment plan for each major is 120students, all of which adopt the 4+0 dual-studentenrollmentand dual-degree cultivation mode. After enrolling, students will register their enrollment in both universities at the same time. Graduates who meet the graduation requirements of both universities will receive a diploma and a bachelor's degree certificate respectively from both Chang'an University andUniversity CollegeDublin.
CDIC was established based onthe existing Civil Engineering Infrastructuremajor in our university. This cooperativemajor started its first admissionin 2018. The project is in good operation with high student satisfaction. The majors set up by CDIC are highly compatible with the core tasks of implementing “building strong national transportation network”, which means to accelerate the improvement of the transportation infrastructure network (Civil Engineering Infrastructure major), promote independent research and development of transportation equipment (Automotive Engineeringmajor), and improve the overall transportation efficiency (Transport City Planning and Environmental Policy major). With the goal of building an international college with distinctive characteristics in the field of transportation engineering, CDICfocuses on cultivating students' mathematical foundation, global perspective, patriotism, teamworkspirit, international communication, innovation, entrepreneurship, and comprehensive practical capabilities. All three majors were selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduatemajors.
CDIC,making full use of the existing preponderantdiscipline’s advantage, further promotes innovation and the integration and cultivationof talents from both sides: The major course syllabus is jointly written by both sides’teachers; The major course is taught infull English or a combination of Chinese and English, where Core courses taught by foreign parties account for 70%. At the same time, talent cultivation focuses on the combination of knowledge and practice:In order to cultivate the practical ability of international talents, CDICprovides students with opportunities to gain practical experiencein well-known domestic and foreign companies; Moreover, it cultivate students’ innovative awareness through various disciplines’practical activities; It also carry out abundant cultural exchanges activities to enhancestudents’ English learning and language application skills. CDICis committed to cultivating advanced technology and management talents with broad international vision, high problem-solving capabilities for complex engineering problems and global competence in the field of transportationengineering.
CDIChastop teaching team, distinctive international characteristics, with more than 50 teachers have overseas doctorates. For the long-term development, CDIC has formulated a reasonable development and improvement planfor teachers: regularly organize Chinese teachers to go abroad to discuss education quality improvement plans and carry out scientific research cooperation in related fields; guide Chinese and foreign teachers to observe and learn from each other’steaching methods; promote the exchange of high-quality resourcesby equipping foreign courses with Chinese teaching assistants.Meanwhile, to ensure a good teaching quality and atmosphere, withthe foundation of existing professional teaching facilities for Civil Engineering Infrastructure major,CDIC will further upgrade the facilities, optimize the allocation of resources, and create a comprehensive teaching environment that can support the development of interactive, discussion-based, and role-playing teaching activities. CDIC further improvesthe network conditions to ensure that students can efficiently obtain the teaching resources of the University College Dublin, providesstudents with an immersive international teachingatmosphere.
CDICfully integrates high-quality educationresourcesfrom domestic andoverseas.Itcombines the strengths ofthesuperior disciplinesfromChang'an University and University College Dublin. CDIC adopts the advanced talent cultivation model of double degree”, “double registration”,and“4+0 to realize study abroad withoutactuallygoing abroad. CDIC aims to be aninternationalizedcollege with distinctive characteristics in the field of transportation engineering, and is committed to cultivating “new engineering + largetransportation+International advancedtalentswith international perspective,highproblem-solving capabilities, and global competence in the field of transportationengineering.
