CDIC’s participating project “Smearing asphalt technology- the leader of intelligent cooling coating for asphalt pavement” won the International Project Gold Award in the 7th China International College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2021, and achieved a major breakthrough for Chang’an University in the China International College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
The participating members of the project are all students from CDIC. The core members of the team are Cui Zihan, Wang Xibo, Liu Caihong from the 2019 Civil Engineering Infrastructure major, and Zhou Haoyu from the 2018 Civil Engineering Infrastructure major. The project is guided by Wei Kun, deputy director of the Road Engineering Department of the School of Highway, and Wang Hainian, Secretary of the Party Branch and Dean of CDIC, and Amanda Gibney, deputy dean of the School of Civil Engineering, University College Dublin, Ireland, serve as technical consultants for the project.
The project is dedicated to the development of intelligent cooling coatings for asphalt pavements, which can solve high temperature diseases of asphalt pavements, effectively reduce the temperature of asphalt pavements in summer, save pavement maintenance costs, extend pavement service life and alleviate urban heat island effects. The core research direction of the project is to introduce phase change material technology and microcapsule technology into pavement cooling materials, and actively solve the problem of high temperature road surface from the perspective of thermodynamics. The core technology of the project is the dual-core epoxy polymer high thermal conductivity wall material of micron-sized microcapsules and the high latent enthalpy value phase change material core material. These two core technologies overcome the shortcomings of high rupture rate of the shell of phase change material microcapsules and leakage of contents. At present, the project team has applied the above-mentioned advanced technologies to actual projects and achieved good economic benefits.
Final defense scene
Under the guidance of the Academic Affairs Office of the University, the Office of Academic Affairs of the college actively organized publicity and mobilization, fully allocated and coordinated resources, guided the Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association of the college to mobilize all students, organize and coordinate the participating teams, and contact instructors. It also allocated the quotas for the competitions of the international and domestic circuits, and invited the students and teachers of UCD to participate. On the eve of the final, the Office of Academic Affairs organized Wang Hainian, Secretary of the Party Branch and Dean of CDIC, Bai Qiang, Deputy Dean of CDIC, and Wei Kun, the instructor, to give comprehensive guidance and optimization to the participating projects, providing important technical and theoretical support for the final defense of the participating teams.
This competition is an important carrier and key platform for China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. It has grown into the most influential university innovation and entrepreneurship event which covers all colleges and universities across the country and caters to all college students. The competition focuses on the special time of the centenary anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the strategic starting point for China to enter a new stage of development. It revolves around the overall goal of more Chinese, more international, more educated, more comprehensive, and more innovative, and is committed to developing a comprehensive innovation and entrepreneurship education practice, improving the organization of online and offline competitions, and teaching courses on party history education, ideological and political education, innovation and entrepreneurship, rural revitalization, and national prosperity. It’s the world's largest innovation and entrepreneurship event that is jointly built and shared, and integrates Chinese and foreign students, and is attended by hundreds of countries, thousands of schools, and millions of young students.
In order to better stimulate the innovation and entrepreneurship enthusiasm of the students, cultivate their practical ability, and display educational achievements, the college encourages all students to actively participate in various domestic and foreign innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and takes these competitions as an important starting point for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. CDIC promotes education, learning and innovation through competitions, explores new ways of talent training, cultivates innovative and entrepreneurial forces, and builds a new platform for the integration of industry and education. While cultivating high-quality international talents, the college combines the characteristics of Sino-foreign cooperative education. It uses the advantage to actively organize students to participate in international competitions, which effectively improves the quality of Sino-foreign cooperative education of CDIC.
