CDIC held a trial teaching session for the selection of Chinese teachers of English course

On the afternoon of May 26, 2021, CDIC held a trial teaching session for the selection of Chinese teachers of English course in the conference room on the fourth floor of Hongyuan Building. Bai Qiang(deputy dean of CDIC), and Jia Jieyu (director of the academic affairs office, participated in the selection trial session. Yang Guanghui (CDIC’s special advisor), Liu Yu (associate professor of the School of Foreign Languages), Alex Runchman (Supervisor of UCD Language Center), and the 6 student representatives of CDIC jointly rated participated teachers for their trial lecture.


English courses are the introductory courses of Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, which are very important for students’ further study in core curriculums. The Language Center of University College Dublin provides Course design and teaching arrangement for English courses in accordance with CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). CDIC’s English courses are divided into four modules: listening, speaking, reading, and writing; among them, the listening and reading modules are in charged by Chinese teachers, and the speaking and writing modules are in charged by foreign language teachers. Therefore, CDIC selects and hires teachers in a strictly demanding and high-standard manner to ensure the quality of English courses.


This trial teaching session was divided into three parts: lecturing, the simulating of real classes, and the questioning session by Alex Runchman (supervisor of UCD Language Center). 8 teachers of school of foreign language who participated in this trial teaching session used diversified teaching methods to simulate the real classes and conducted trial lectures in English. The evaluating teachers and student representatives graded the teaching demonstration of each teacher from the seven aspects of teaching goal, teaching content, teaching method, teaching process, teacher’s quality, teaching effect and teaching characteristics. The final scores are based on comprehensive aspect.


This trial teaching session conducted a comprehensive inspection of teachers from many aspects such as English expression ability, professional knowledge level, logicality ,and organizing ability. CDIC would train hired teachers by combining the characteristics of Sino-foreign cooperative education in English teaching to build a team of high-quality English teachers in an all-round way, promote the internationalization of education. For students, the high standard selection could improve the quality of English course, thus laying a solid English foundation for CDIC students, and increase their overseas study rate.
