At 16:00 on March 22, CDIC held a series of Study Abroad Salon lectures in the lecture hall on the fourth floor of Hongyuan Building. The purpose of this lecture is to improve the students’ ability to communicate in other countries, inspire them to think ahead of time in their study career, and broaden their horizon in their opinions about the future, In the first lecture, the New Oriental Overseas Project team was specially invited to communicate and consult with students. Wang Xiao, the top-level planner of the British Department of Shaanxi Branch, gave a report on the topic of CDIC Students' Graduation Path Planning. Lu Yihang, Assistant Deputy President of New Oriental Futures Abroad and General Manager of Shaanxi Branch, and Bai Qiang, Deputy Dean of CDIC, attended the event. The event was presided over by Yao Yiliang, deputy dean of CDIC.
At the beginning of the event, Yao Yiliang welcomed the visit of the New Oriental Overseas Project Team. He said that CDIC is committed to building a four-in-one international talent cultivation system. CDIC stimulate students’ interest in overseas study by spreading international culture, help clarify students’ future development directions by providing study abroad consultation, strengthen students’ language foundations, enhancing international communication competence, and building exchange platforms to enrich study abroad experience. Study Abroad Salon series of activities are an important. He thanked the New Oriental Future Overseas Project team for providing professional explanations and guidance to the students.
After that, Lu Yihang gave a speech for the event. As an alumnus of Chang'an University, Lu Yihang encourages students to fully explore the possibilities in life through their own study and work experience, make future development plans as soon as possible, and make good use of the high-quality education and teaching resources provided by CDIC to continuously improve their own qualities and abilities, so they can strive to enter a broader world on the road to study and work in the future.
In the report session, Wang Xiao used a large number of statistical results and examples to show students the development path after graduation and the preparations that should be made during the undergraduate period from the four perspectives of employment, postgraduate entrance examination, entrepreneurship and study abroad. Wang Xiao pointed out that as a manifestation of hard power during the undergraduate period, academic performance is very important for all development paths. However, students also need to improve their soft power to better pursue future development goals. Students need to accumulate achievements in scientific research projects, thesis, qualification certificates, internship experience and other fields according to their personal goals, and continuously enhance their core competitiveness in order to have satisfactory outcome upon graduation.
After the lecture, the students had further communications with the teachers of the New Oriental Future Overseas Project team based on their own development issues. The teachers listened carefully, answered enthusiastically, and put forward corresponding plans and suggestions, which benefited the students a lot.
The Study Abroad Salon series of lectures aims to broaden students’ horizons and stimulate their motivation to study abroad. The event will invite graduate students with overseas study backgrounds, young teachers, and experts from overseas study consulting agencies to communicate and share their experience, and provide students with professional guidance and training on aspects of study abroad planning, external communication skills, project application process, material preparation, writing essentials, common sense of overseas life, mental health maintenance, etc.
