On the afternoon of September 16, 2020, CDIC held a seminar on English teaching. Wang Hainian (Dean of CDIC), Bai Qiang (Deputy Dean of CDIC), Jia Jieyu (Director of Academic affairs Office), Alex Runchman (Superviser of University College Dublin’s Applied Language Center), and 15 teachers who are responsible for this semester’s English teaching attended the meeting.
Wang Hainian briefly introduced the establishment and development of the CDIC, focusing on the improvement and transformation of CDIC’s overall infrastructure and the training plan of teachers’ all English teaching. He pointed out that English language teaching is the basis for the cultivation of talents in Sino-foreign cooperative education. Also, English language teaching have high requirements and heavy responsibilities. He hopes that all teachers can not only work together with CDIC to improve the English language teaching, but also help students lay a solid English foundation, help their study in English courses, and increase the rate of overseas study of CDIC students.

In order to further improve the quality of English teaching and strengthen communication and coordination, CDIC hired two teachers, Zhong Feng and Li Jin as the people in-charge of the English course, responsible for promoting English teaching and supervising English course’s quality and whole process of evaluation together with the Language Center of the University College Dublin. Wang Hainian issued appointment letters to Zhong Feng and Li Jin respectively.

Bai Qiang briefly introduced the basic situation of CDIC, including the management structure, major settings, teaching resources, etc., and focused on the basic situation of English modules.
Next, the seminar invited Alex Runchman, supervisor of the Applied Language Center of the University College Dublin, to give a special lecture entitled Teaching English for Academic Purposes: Student-Led Classes to Prepare for UniversityLife. He encouraged English teachers to use the flipped classroom model to enhance teaching interaction, guide teachers to independently think about the role of the classroom, and emphasized the importance of teamwork between Chinese and international teachers to ensure the quality of English teaching.

The meeting also invited Zhong Feng and Li Jin to communicate the English teaching experience with the titles of to work despite wind and rain and work hard to press ahead and The Teacher’s learning road is also endlessly. The two teacher representatives shared their personal English teaching experience with the participating teachers, summarized the characteristics of English teaching in Sino-foreign cooperative education, emphasized the importance of the integration of language teaching and cultural teaching, and emphasized the challenging and special features in the process of English teaching in Sino-foreign cooperative education.
