On March 31, 2022, Professor Zhang Jufan of the School of Mechanical and Material Engineering, University College Dublin, with the responsibility and enthusiasm for education, set off from Ireland, travelled thousands of miles and overcame numerous obstacles to arrive in Xiamen. According to local epidemic prevention requirements,Prof. Zhang conducted online teaching while being quarantined ij Ximen’s hotel. After the isolation period, he immediately set off for Xi'an, arrived safely at the Weishui campus of Chang'an University on April 29 and continued his isolation.
After the isolation, CDIC’s deputy secretary Yao Yiliang and deputy dean Bai Qiang met with Prof. Zhang. They expressed thanks and admiration to him for his responsibility and dedication in giving offline lectures to the CDIC students and introduced the basic situation of the college.

On May 9th, Prof. Zhang formally began offline teaching for the CDIC freshmen majoring in Automotive Engineering. Impressed by his professionalism and enthusiasm, the students actively participated in the class and discussions.

On the afternoon of May 19th, Prof. Zhang delivered an academic lecture on the development and application of manufacturing industry in UCD to CDIC students. In the lecture, he briefly introduced the research direction and progress of advanced manufacturing, materials, optics, atomic manufacturing and other fields of UCD, and discussed with students about manufacturing technology, process control, intelligent detection, industrial application and so on. Then he introduced the application for master, doctor and post-doctor in UCD, as well as the current situation of job opportunities and employment development at home and abroad, inspiring the students to explore a new path for overseas study planning from a multi-dimensional perspective.

In the current severe epidemic situation, Prof. Zhang made great efforts to overcome many obstacles to return to China, bring offline teaching for CDIC students with multiple lectures, which not only deepens the students understanding of the mechanical manufacturing field at UCD, but also greatly inspires their learning enthusiasm and provides more directions for students’ future development. Prof. Zhang encouraged the students to further clarify their goals, plan their future endeavors in advance, and keep striving and forging ahead.
In the future, CDIC will continue working hand in hand with UCD to overcome the obstacles of the epidemic,promote the process of UCD teachers teaching in China, and make efforts to cultivate international talents of the college.
